Corporeal Forms: Opening Reception Saturday, August 3, 2019, 6-9pm

Complicating notions of a simplified relation to the form, Rare Visions Gallery Project brings together the works of artists Claire Ashley and Em Kettner in the show Corporeal Forms. Claire’s wildly playful “breathing” inflatables and grid like drawings that reference flesh, interact with Em’s small clay figures that balance representations of the crippled human form with patterned, shape-shifting and totemic animal aspects that also emphasize the sexual characteristics of bodies.

Corporeal Forms contextualizes the work of Ashley and Kettner against the lived-in stark white walls of Rare Visions Gallery. Large windows that open up to the natural Boulder landscape are suggestive of play. Interspersed in this lived in area, and occupying space in a way that creates conversation, the work emphasizes a whole body relationship between these two different material approaches and uses of scale in relationship to identities.
